Natural Dye Workshop with Samantha Verrone September 29th
Sunday September 29th 1-4 pm
Natural dye workshop with Samantha Verrone where we will explore dyeing fabric with plants from the late summer garden and beyond. Bring a white or light-colored natural fiber textile (cotton, linen, silk or wool shirt, tee, sweater, bandana, scarf, napkins, small table cloth) and we will employ tying, binding and bundling techniques as well as color shifting after immersing our textiles in the dye baths. If bringing a new textile, please prewash it to remove sizing and manufacturing gook. Thrift shops are an excellent place to find vintage pieces that dye well with plants and minerals.
This is an introductory class and no prior experience with dyeing is required. Sample fabrics will be provided for testing techniques and colors. Please bring a container or plastic bag to bring wet items home.
Regenerative design practices offer ways to care for our environment and ourselves by using what we have to make something new, reducing water consumption and composting exhausted dye baths back to the soil.
